Sizing machines are mainly used for sizing textiles such as cotton, linen, and chemical fibers. They work by using heated emulsions or alkaline solutions to gelatinize the starch on the yarn surface, causing the starch granules to swell and dissolve. Simultaneously, the gaps between fibers widen, allowing added chemical auxiliaries to enter these gaps and chemically adsorb onto the fibers, increasing the coefficient of friction and improving yarn strength.

Sizing machines are a type of equipment used in the weaving preparation process, primarily for sizing silk fabrics. They are available in single-axis, double-axis, and triple-axis types.
